One evening, not that long ago, after having an otherwise great day, I noticed as the sun was setting, that I started feeling like crap for no apparent reason.
It started out as maybe boredom, or just a general malaise, but when dinner time came, I realized that I didn’t feel like taking the time and energy to cook a meal.
So, I decided to take a hot shower and go to bed early instead.
I laid in bed, tossing and turning, not able to sleep. My mind raced, and worries surfaced and grew, until I found myself sliding into some sort of combination of panic, exhaustion, and despair.
Now, as you know, I am a teacher and coach of conscious creation. I work with my clients on consciously shifting their vibration, their point of attraction, by paying attention to what they are thinking and feeling.
So, I am very familiar and experienced with several techniques and processes of self-soothing. Though not difficult, they do require focus, and at this point, I was just too tired to try.
So, along with seeing the irony and a tinge of self-judgment, rather than trying to control or change how I was feeling, I decided to just accept that in that moment, I felt like crap, and it was OK.
I simply acknowledged and accepted how I was feeling without resistance. Then, as if remembering something I had forgotten, I thought, well, at least I can still love myself.
I can feel angry, sad, frustrated, worried, or overwhelmed, and still love myself. I can feel these negative emotions, and underneath all of them, feel loved at the same time.
And of course, as I allowed myself to open to that love, I began to feel better, drifted off to sleep, and felt great in the morning.
I share this story as a reminder that it doesn’t take any energy or effort to receive love.
You also don’t need to deny or first stop any negative emotions in order to feel loved. You can still let the love in, even when you feel like crap. And you ARE loved.
Whether you call the source of that love God, the Universe, Source, your ancestors, your soul or true self, it doesn’t matter.
You are loved deeply. That love is always available for you to receive, and it requires no energy or effort on your part to receive it.
All you have to do is let it in. It is your most basic and fundamental nature. Even when you feel like you have nothing left to give, you can still tap into it.
Loving yourself isn’t even something you have to do, it’s something you allow. It is letting go and reconnecting with who you really are.
And when you do, no matter how bad you are feeling, you will start feeling better. I guarantee it.
